Seeing Growth

Writer: Ryan ReedRyan Reed

Isn't it funny that you don't see growth in an area of your life, or your program (or whatever) until you take a step back and think of where your journey started? I had that moment this week. We started our day off with a discussion of how to learn and practice (something I don't think I talk about enough with students), which was great. Then we were going through our warm up/technique block and I just watched them and said to myself, "wow, these students have come such a long way individually."

I know we are all digging in to aspects of our programs, or maybe our own lives...I know I am. When we are in that digging in part of the process, it can feel like very little it going right and nothing is progressing as fast I want it too. This has been my journey in teaching during my first year at a new school, but also my journey in working to improve the quality of my life physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. However, progress is happening. Come up for air, recognize it, pat yourself (or you students, co-workers, etc) on the back and feel proud/accomplished. Then go back to digging so you can come up farther down the road and realize that your progress is still moving forward.

I hope you all well wishes during your time of growth in whatever area you are working on!
